Twenty years earlier Raymond Dart labeled a skull found at Taung "Australopithecus africanus." The dentition of that skull indicates that it was a juvenile, which led to much criticism and broad dismissal of Dart's contention that the skull was a hominid; instead, critics considered it an ape. Like other early hominids, Sts 5 had an ape-sized brain with a cranial capacity about 485 cc. Compared to Australopithecus afarensis, it has a more rounded skull, a less projecting face, absence of cranial crests, and smaller front teeth. However, the front teeth are larger than in robust australopithecines such as boisei. The cheek teeth are larger than in Australopithecus afarensis but smaller than in the robust australopithecines.

The Bone Clones® Hominid line is composed of discoveries from anatomically modern humans, archaic humans, early Homo, early hominins, and other hominids. The fossil hominid Sambungmacan 3 (Sm 3) was first discovered in 1977 from the banks of the Solo River near the village of Poloyo, Sambungmacan district, in central Java. It was later recovered in a New York City natural history establishment in 1999 and quickly returned to the Indonesian authorities. Examination of Sm 3 shows that the calvaria is well preserved with only portions of the cranial base missing. The most striking characteristics of Sm 3 include: the presence of a vertically rising forehead, more open occipital/nuchal and frontal angles, a more globular vault, and a cranial capacity within the Homo erectus range. Most notably absent in Sm 3 are a number of the classic characters attributed to Homo erectus, such as a strongly expressed angular torus and a continuous supratoral sulcus. The absence of such characters would normally place the calvaria outside the range of Homo erectus (sensu stricto), however, overall quantitative and qualitative morphological assessments of Sm 3 place it within the Homo erectus spectrum. The combination of the morphological characters in Sm 3 may be interpreted in several ways: 1.) the known cranial variation of H. erectus from Indonesia and China is extended; 2.) this calvaria shows evidence of change within H. erectus; or 3.) more than one species of Homo existed in the (presumed) Middle Pleistocene of Java.)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0041/6635/2996/files/background-editor_output_ad5c07cb-a22e-4311-9361-5e104c7b08c1.png?v=1760405576
homo-habilis-knm-er-1813-cranium-replica-full-size-reconstruction-cast-reconstruction
Pre-owned: Homo habilis KNM-ER 1813 cranium replica Full-size reconstruction cast reconstruction

Homo habilis Cranium KNM-ER 1813

BH-002

The Homo habilis Skull KNM-ER 1813 was discovered by K. Kimeu in 1973 at Koobi Fora, Kenya, and described by R. Leakey in Nature in 1973. There is still controversy about this specimen's classification, with some scientists opting to classify it as an australopithecine and others believing it is a species of Homo. Some paleoanthropologists have raised the possibility that KNM-ER 1813 is the female counterpart to the Homo rudolfensis KNM-ER 1470. While dated to the same time period and sharing some characteristics, KNM-ER 1813 has a much smaller face, brain and teeth than 1470. Other paleoanthropologists argue that its brain size of 510 cc (in contrast to 1470's 750 cc) indicates a size difference too great to be due to sexual dimorphism and represents a separate species. It's also not the case that this specimen is simply an immature version of H. rudolfensis, as the third molar appears to have been worn down. Instead, it has been suggested that it belongs in a category of Homo habilis, with which it shares similarities in tooth size and shape, cranium size, and face shape. The Bone Clones® Hominid line is composed of discoveries from anatomically modern humans, archaic humans, early Homo, early hominins, and other hominids. The Homo neanderthalensis Skull was discovered by A. and J. Bouyssomie and J. Bonneval in 1908 in La Chapelle-aux-Saints, France. It was the most complete Neanderthal skull found at the time. Called the "old man," this individual clearly lived a long time, having much pathology, such as the declined tooth sockets in the molar region and severe arthritis in the neck. Despite his very large brain capacity (over 1,600 cc), early descriptions by Boule declared him to be primitive, leading to the term "Neanderthal" to be synonymous with brutality for decades. More recently, however, many consider Neanderthal to have been a highly successful and social species with many of its physical features, such as low cranial vault and projected face, due to adaptations to cold weather. This cranium is representative of many fossil remains of Neanderthals found throughout present-day Europe. Alan Walker reclassified Proconsul africanus, a Miocene hominoid, as heseloni in 1993. The skull is characterized by the absence of browridges (unlike in modern apes) and the presence of a projecting face. Members of this genus are considered dental apes because their teeth possessed ape-like features. Their teeth also indicate that they were primarily a fruit-eating species. On the other hand, their limb skeletons share monkey-like features. The evidence provided by a wide range of skeletal remains points toward considerable variation within the genus Proconsul, their body size extending from the size of a small monkey to a female gorilla. This skull is a replica of Dawson's so-called "Dawn Man," which had been unearthed in a gravel pit at Piltdown near Sussex, England, by Charles Dawson in 1912. The find consisted of a modern human appearing cranium, with a human sized brain, combined with a primitive apelike jaw, and was found near the remains of extinct animals dated at 500,000 years ago. For 40 years the skull bones of "Dawn Man" were considered genuine and hindered understanding of human evolution by supporting the biased view that a large brain led the evolutionary way toward modern humans. By 1953, the discovery of more hominin fossils, the application of fluorine analysis and the work of anatomists and an archeologist exposed Piltdown Man as a hoax.

The "find" turned out to be a modern appearing human cranium and the mandible of a modern orangutan, buried along with the bones of the extinct animals. Unfortunately, this hoax misdirected anthropologists for some time, contributing to the original rejection of the Taung Child (which had a jaw of human-like features and an ape-sized brain, a reversal of the pattern observed in English Piltdown Man) and also suggesting that pre-Homo sapiens existed in Europe, a view which has since been discredited. A new paper published in the Royal Society Open Science Journal by De Groote et al. (2016), has demonstrated that a single person was behind the hoax, the original discoverer of the “finds” Charles Dawson. Dawson was a solicitor and amateur geologist and archaeologist looking for “…scientific recognition and, in particular, his ambition to be elected a fellow of the Royal Society” (DeGroote et al. 2016). The Piltdown Man hoax serves as a cautionary tale for scientists to remain objective and transparent in their analysis, not to hoard their discoveries, and allow their findings to be subjected to scientific scrutiny.

In the Bone Clones reconstruction, the black portions of the skull indicate the "original" find. With approximately 40% of the skeleton recovered, anthropologists were able to gain a great deal of information regarding body size, limb proportions, and growth rates of Homo ergaster.

Approximate measurements

6 ½" L x 4 ½" W x 4 ½" H   17.1L x 11.8W x 11.6H (cm)

Optional stand also available separately. This specimen, based on the 1948 Leakey discovery, is the most complete Proconsul africanus cranium to date. The finding of Sts 14, which also includes 15 vertebrae and 4 ribs, helped to establish the connection between hominids and the australopithecines.

.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0041/6635/2996/files/AustralopithecusafricanusSts14Pelvis.jpg?v=1716278693
lucy-australopithecus-afarensis-skull-replica-cast
Lucy Australopithecus afarensis skull replica cast Light version Updated 2025 Bone Clones

Lucy Australopithecus afarensis skeleton replica cast

Australopithecus afarensis

Lucy Australopithecus afarensis skull cast replica

Lucy Australopithecus fossil reproduction by Bone Clones.

6 ½" L x 5" W x 6" H   16.6L x 13.1W x 14.5H (cm)

Great specimen for teaching of paleontology and anthropology as well as how science works and progresses knowledge!

Sky and diamonds not included.

Australopithecus afarensis Lucy skull cast replica

Australopithecus afarensis "Lucy"

Available in dark or light paint colors.

Custom display stand also available here:

https://bigfootcasts.com/products/stand-for-lucy-australopithecus-afarensis-skull-replica-cast

THIS PRODUCT MAY TAKE UP TO 15 Days for delivery

Lucy Australopithecus afarensis replica cast STAND ONLY. Item #BH-021A

Skull sold separately.

Australopithecus afarensis

Lucy Australopithecus afarensis skull cast replica sold separately

Lucy Australopithecus fossil reproduction by Bone Clones.

Great specimen for teaching of paleontology and anthropology as well as how science works and progresses knowledge!

Sky and diamonds not included.

Stand for Australopithecus afarensis Lucy skull cast replica. Journal of Anthropological Sciences.

Abstract

A Neanderthal endocast, naturally formed by travertine within the crater of a thermal spring, was found at Gánovce, near Poprad (Slovakia), in 1926, and dated to 105 ka. The endocast is partially covered by fragments of the braincase. The volume of the endocast was estimated to be 1320 cc. The endocast was first studied by the Czech paleoanthropologist Emanuel Vlček, who performed metric and morphological analyses which suggested its Neanderthal origin. Vlček published his works more than fifty years ago, but the fossil is scarcely known to the general paleoanthropological community, probably because of language barriers. Here, we review the historical and anatomical information available on the endocasts, providing additional paleoneurological assessments on its features. The endocast displays typical Neanderthal traits, and its overall appearance is similar to Guattari 1, mostly because of the pronounced frontal width and occipital bulging. The morphology of the Gánovce specimen suggests once more that the Neanderthal endocranial phenotype had already evolved at 100 ka.

“On very rare occasions, as is the case here, the endocranial cast is formed naturally: the geological sediment enters into the cranial cavity and solidifies, while the bones of the cranium are subsequently lost to leave the cast in stone”, explains Stanislava Eisová, a doctoral student on Bruner's team, who carried out this study.

Computerized Tomography

This paper is a review of the literature published in Czech and in Slovak, and it considers the paleoneurological features of the cast in the light of modern theories in this field, with a new reconstruction based on computerized tomography.

The cerebral anatomy of this individual shows typically Neanderthal traits, with small and flat parietal lobes, pronounced occipital lobes, and very wide frontal lobes.

“This fossil, together with the Saccopastore 1 cranium found in Rome in the first half of the last century, suggests that the anatomy of the Neanderthal brain had already evolved 100-200 thousand years ago, a long time before this extinct group attained its large cranial capacity”, concludes Bruner.

This study, entitled “The Neanderthal endocast from Gánovce (Poprad, Slovak Republic”, was carried out under the auspices of a collaboration with the National Museum in Prague, where this fossil is currently deposited.

We import this item.

Approximate measurements

6 ½" L x 4 ½" W x 4 ½" H   17.1L x 11.8W x 11.6H (cm)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0041/6635/2996/files/product-1715-main-main-big-1415044581.jpg?v=1739078000
mandibular-dentition-of-australopithecus-anamensis-resin-cast-replica
Mandibular dentition of Australopithecus anamensis Resin Cast replica

Mandibular dentition of Australopithecus anamensis - Cast in resin.

All information is in the photos.
