Stenosaurus bollensis Marine Crocodile Replica
Dimensions: 51 x 22 inches
Stenosaurus bollensis was a marine crocodile from the world-renowned Late Jurassic Posidonia Shale of Holzmaden, Germany.
The black, oil-bearing shale from this region has been quarried for hundreds of years — and continues to be worked today to depths of nearly 38 feet. While the slate is commonly used for floor slabs and tabletops, the quarries are internationally famous for producing thousands of exceptionally preserved fossils.
Many specimens from this locality are beautifully highlighted with golden pyrite.
Holzmaden is considered a Lagerstätte — a rare fossil site known for extraordinary preservation and diversity.
