Zuniceratops skeleton rental
Zuniceratops was a small, herbivorous ceratopsian dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous period (93 mya) in what is now New Mexico, notable for being one of the earliest North American horned dinosaurs, with two prominent brow horns but no nose horn, and a primitive frill. It was about the size of a cow, much smaller than later relatives like Triceratops, and its anatomy provides key insights into the development of ceratopsids.
Key Characteristics
Name: Means "Zuni-horned face".
Time Period: Mid-to-late Cretaceous (Turonian stage).
Location: Found in the Zuni Basin of New Mexico, USA.
Size: Roughly 3 to 3.5 meters (10-11 ft) long and about 1 meter (3.3 ft) tall at the hips, weighing 100-150 kg (200-250 lbs).
Horns: Had two large brow horns but lacked a nasal horn, a primitive trait.
Frill: A thin, broad, shield-like frill with large holes, but without the bumpy epoccipital bones of later ceratopsids.
Diet: Herbivore, eating plants.
Significance: An important link showing the early development of horned dinosaurs before the appearance of more advanced ceratopsids.
